CHECK AIRSPACE

As you should recall from your DPI training and Drone Law class, there are several things needing to be checked before a drone flight even occurs:

  • Airspace Authorization (Including LAANCE)

  • Weather

  • Visibility

  • Flight Authority

There are many phone applications or websites available to assist with this. It does not matter which one you use, as long as you do it correctly. See slides for some app options.

CREATE/ASSIGN THE CALL

Outside of training, every flight is documented many ways. A call for service must be generated so you can write your report. If the call is already in progress, simply assign to the existing call. If there isn't one and there isn't a more appropriate call title, you can title it UAV Operation.

Close all calls with a "1" if you are primary since you will be writing a report every time a drone goes in the air. If you are not primary, go 10-8 so you can write a supplement like any other call for service.

DJI APPLICATION

The appropriate DJI Aplication should alwasy be opened before any mission.

Conduct the following:

  • Check for firmware updates

  • Check for battery firmware updates

  • Check for DJI "flysafe" updates

  • Ensure QEP unlock is applied

  • Set remote control functions/buttons

Outlook Email Notification

-Email notification will be sent prior to any flight. This assists with streaming and tracking of flights for reporting purposes.

-Send email to:

UAVNotification group (UAVNotifications@traviscountytx.gov) or

HEATUAVnotification group (HEATUAVNotification@traviscountytx.gov) for HEAT scenes.

-Subject should read: UAV Notification: (nature of original call)

-Message contents should include the following with all spaces filled out.

All non-training flights require a call to be generated and a report will be written.

-UAV Operation Call

-Close with Report

Generating a call for service titled “UAV Operation” would be applicable if it is a completely original call, but those should be rare as we do not use these for evidence gathering.
